What is refractory mortar?
Different ingredients go into the refractory mortar, like calcium aluminate and fireclay. Fireclay is a group of clays that can withstand temperatures of up to 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. You can think of this as clay that can handle high temperatures. One reason fireclays can withstand such high temperatures is that they are used to make fire bricks.
Types of Refractory Mortar
- Hydraulic Setting Mortar is the best cement because it doesn't dissolve in water. Mixing rocks and binders can take up to six hours, and the mortar needs to be mixed at 1499 degrees Celsius, which is very hot.
- People often use fireclay refractory mortar to fix and glue together blast furnaces, hot coke ovens, absorbing pit furnaces, heat transfer, boilers, and other high-quality clay brick industrial furnaces.
- The Air-Drying Mortar in the air takes longer to dry than its name suggests. Because of this, it is recommended for hot and dry places. It's also called "premixed refractory mortar" because it contains molten silicate and clay particles. It doesn't have as many good qualities as the first one.
