1. Mining and Extraction: Fire clay is typically mined from deposits that contain high levels of kaolinite and other minerals necessary for its heat-resistant properties. 2. Beneficiation: The extracted clay may contain impurities and non-clay minerals that need to be removed through a process called beneficiation. Beneficiation involves processes like crushing, grinding, and screening to reduce the clay to a consistent size and remove any unwanted materials. This step ensures that the final fire clay product has the desired composition and purity.

3. Blending and Mixing: After beneficiation, the fire clay is often mixed with other materials to achieve specific properties. For example, chamotte (calcined fire clay) or grog (crushed fired clay) might be added to enhance the clay’s refractory qualities and reduce shrinkage during firing. This mixture is thoroughly blended to create a uniform composition.
